Chinon and the Loire Valley

Upon your arrival at La Closerie Saint Martin we are always happy to offer you a drink and have a look at the local map together, to help you make the most of your stay in the Loire Valley. We are delighted to share our tips to suit your interests and to tell you about all there is to see and do. On the doorstep of our guesthouse you will find castles, medieval villages, stunning gardens, unspoilt nature, beautiful churches and bustling markets. The difficult part is deciding where to start! Bicycling in the Loire Valley

Cycling is big in the Loire Valley and getting better all the time. There is a huge network of bicycle lanes all over the area, the most famous one being of course the long distance “Loire à vélo“ path, that leads over 800 km from Nevers in Burgundy to the Atlantic Ocean.

Loire Valley Wines

Our guesthouse is situated right in the middle of a wine growing area. Discover Chinon AOC wines, the red variety being Cabernet Franc, the white grapes are Chenin Blanc.

Markets and Festivals

Many culinary specialties grow in the fertile soil of the Loire Valley. Visit one of the colorful markets where your taste buds will be tempted by shellfish and oysters from the Atlantic coast, freshwater fish from the Vienne and Loire river, seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables as well as goat's and other cheeses and the creations of the local bakers and chocolatiers.
